Why Regular Hearing Tests Matter
Regular hearing tests are an important part of maintaining your overall health and well-being. By monitoring your hearing health, you can address any potential issues early and make sure that you receive the necessary support and treatments to maintain a high quality of life. We recommend testing every 1 to 5 years depending on your age and your hearing health.

Types of Hearing Tests
There are a range of hearing tests designed to measure different aspects of your auditory function. During a comprehensive hearing test, you’ll have a pure tone test and a speech audiometry test. Depending on your hearing health, we may also recommend additional hearing tests.
What to Expect During a Hearing Test
During a hearing test, we’ll talk about your hearing health, perform hearing tests, and talk about the results. Here’s what you can expect:
- Health History: Your hearing care provider will review your hearing and medical history and any issues you have been experiencing related to your hearing. This can include current medications, hearing loss symptoms, or any other concerns you have.
- Physical Exam: We’ll do a brief physical exam of your outer ear and ear canal to evaluate any signs of earwax buildup, infection, or other issues. This is non-invasive and completely painless.
- Hearing Tests: Hearing tests will be conducted to evaluate your hearing abilities, which may include pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions (OAE), and acoustic reflex testing.
- Results: Following hearing testing, we’ll discuss your results and provide recommendations for any next steps. This could include treatment options like hearing aids, or further testing if needed.
Preparation Tips
Ready for your next hearing test? We recommend arriving well-rested and wearing comfortable clothing. Be ready to talk about your hearing health and when you notice the most trouble hearing. You can also bring a list of current medications to give us more information about your overall health. Additionally, if you currently use hearing aids or other assistive devices, bring them with you to your appointment.

Feel free to ask questions! Some questions you might want to ask include:
